Our Story

How Our Vineyard Came to Be

“Don’t listen to the critics, just go with your gut!” These words of encouragement reflect the Mooney’s mindset when they moved to their mountain top property in 1998. Tucked away on a south-facing mountain slope in north Douglas County, Oregon, the Mooney family found a secluded paradise and a perfect place to plant a vineyard.

Developing a “high elevation” vineyard presented many challenges. Would a late spring frost destroy the tender vines? Would the season last long enough to ripen the fruit? Fortunately, they took a chance on it & never looked back. At over 900 feet in elevation, Susan’s Vineyard is a cool site in an otherwise warm growing region known for producing elegant wines. The vineyard is “dry-farmed” with low yield crop levels to enhance the desirable characteristics in their wines.

Fast forward twenty years, now Susan’s Vineyard winery offers several vintages of their signature Pinot Noir as well as other varietals. Today, the tasting room & viewing deck overlooking the vineyard present a lovely setting for your visit.
